    The Great Gatsby

This long-anticipated adaptation of F.Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel of the super-rich and the American dream finally comes to our screens in May. Filmed in 3D, and in the hands of Moulin Rouge director, Baz Luhrmann, it promises to be a lavish spectacle of jazz-age style and hedonism. Leonardo di Caprio stars as the eponymous central figure, while Carey Mulligan plays his lover, Daisy Buchanan. Released in the US on 10 May, 15 May in France and Australia on 30 May.

We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

Documentary film maker Alex Gibney – who had hits with Taxi to the Dark Side and Enron: The Smartest Guy in the Room – tells the story of the whilstleblowers’ organisation with meticulous research and the pace of a spy thriller. Released 24 May in the US (New York and Los Angeles only) with a wider US and international release in June.

    The Hangover Part III

Directed by Todd Phillips, the third and final part of the hugely successful Hangover trilogy stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Ken Jeong. John Goodman joins the cast as a gang leader who sets upon the hapless group. A kidnapping plot ensues, leading the crew back to Vegas... Released in New Zealand on 23 May, the US on 24 May and India on 31 May.

    Before Midnight

Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke reprise the roles of Celine and Jessie in the third film in director Richard Linklater's series. In Before Sunrise, they were wide-eyed youngsters, walking the streets of Vienna on an unforgettable night together; in Before Sunset they met again in Paris, nine years older and full of cares and regrets. Now we meet the couple once more - almost two decades since their fateful first meeting - on holiday in Greece. Released 24 May in the US, 6 June in Germany and 19 July in Taiwan.

    Star Trek into Darkness

Director JJ Abrams follows up his Star Trek remake with this 3D sequel, reuniting much of the first film’s cast, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana all reprising their roles as Kirk, Spock and Lt Uhuru. Simon Pegg takes on the role of Scotty and Benedict Cumberbatch plays their evil British nemesis. Released 9 May in Germany, 17 May in the US and 13 June in Israel.

A clever, talky, black-and-white picture with shades of Woody Allen’s Manhattan and Lena Dunham’s Girls, Frances Ha follows a twenty-something college graduate through the joys and disappointments of life in New York. Noah Baumbach directs and his partner, indie darling Greta Gerwig, takes the role of Frances. Released 3 May in the US, 20 June in the Netherlands and 28 June in Sweden.

    The Bling Ring

Based on real events, this crime drama follows a group of fame-obsessed teenagers who track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes. This is a new departure for director Sofia Coppola, and stars Emma Watson and Israel Broussard. Released in France on 12 June, in the US on 14 June and Russia on 27 June.
